They finally bloomed!!!!!
My hopes were dashed last month when my Spitfire blooms were far behind schedule compared to the other nasturtiums that had reseeded in my garden from last year. This month they have surprised me by blooming their bright orange hearts out and I couldn’t be more impressed! The color is bold and beautiful, the foliage is mammoth… and in spite of a weedy bed at the moment they are happy as can be.
I must confess at the moment there isn’t anywhere for these little bloomers to climb, so they are happily tumbling over the rocks at the edge of the bed and into the path. The bees don’t seem to mind so I guess I will let them alone for the time being. I am curious to see if they will climb with a bit of help, though.
For now I’m happy they’re happy. The heat of summer has arrived and the cool wet weather that set them back is long gone. I hope to see a lot more blooms in the next few weeks and hopefully a hummingbird or two. Hooray for ‘Spitfire-works’ just in time for July!

“I’m growing Nasturtium “Spitfire” for the GROW project, thanks to ReneesGarden.com for the seeds”

I just *love* the bright color of the ‘Spitfire’ blooms! Yours are looking very happy and healthy
They are much happier now! I love the vivid color, it adds a little spark to the rest of the garden.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a weedy garden! And love your heading of spitfire-work, clever!
The bright-colored blooms fit perfectly this July 4th weekend, right? Thanks for updating up on how yours are doing.
Thanks for the idea in a prior post to use nasturtium leaves as wraps! Check them out on this month’s spitfire post– they are delicious!
I’m glad you tried them and liked them!
Oh yes! I was surprised (and VERY happy) to see those bright blossoms lighting up the garden.
Weeds and gardens… you can’t have one without the other! LOL!
My Nasturtium ‘Spitfire’ have been growing out front and out back, tumbling out of its’ containers. I love the bright splash of orange/red against the green! Definitely a new fave in my gardens.
