  • When Birds Recycle February 3, 2012
I was out and about on Sunday, cleaning up after the dogs and looking for wildlife of interest. January is not always the best time of year to find things, but Florida has experienced a relatively warm winter and spring is in the air so we have our fair share of resident wildlife meandering around.... • Orange Moon and The Grandmother Tree February 1, 2012
Exploring the wonders of nature with the children who come to visit my wildlife garden is one of the greatest joys of my life. We turn over rocks to look for the Worm Snake who lives there. We watch the bugs with our hand lenses. We are amazed when the butterfly emerges from its chrysalis.... [Continue Reading] […]

  • Green Healthy Lawns and Yards without Chemicals January 31, 2012
In cased you missed it, last week our very own Carole Brown took the wildlife gardening world by storm with her exposure of the National Wildlife Federation/ScottsMiracle-Gro partnership, which quickly escalated into a widespread social media storm of protest by organic gardeners, farmers and environmental writers. On Sunday, amazingly, the NWF’s reversed th […]

  • Counting Birds in the Garden January 30, 2012
I could not have guessed how timely this post would turn out to be.  I thought, I’ll get a head start promoting the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC).  After all we want to see more birds in the garden.  But who would have guessed that while I was gazing out my window this past gray... [Guest post by Jan Bills] “For me the only things of interests are those linked to the heart” ~Audrey Hepburn When I read the email from Carole asking if I would like to write a guest post for her highly regarded, well-respected website, I nearly dropped my teeth! Me, I thought to myself. I am... [Continue Reading] […]

A Tea Party for Your Plants

When it comes to our organic gardens, I’m very careful about what I use on the plants and in the soil. A lot of products use the word “natural” but when I look closely at the company and product they don’t live up to the label. With the current trend in home gardening growing at a fast pace  there are more and more products coming out… not all with valid claims.

Then I met Annie Haven on Twitter. After sharing about the indoor garden pepper plants that were beginning to bear fruit, Annie got in touch with me and offered me a *FREE* sample of her Natural Brew Soil Conditioner Tea. She shared the history of Haven Livestock Producers and their commitment to raising livestock without use of pesticides, hormones and antibiotics since 1924. That’s over 80 years of organic goodness! The by-product of raising their healthy, organic livestock? Authentic Haven Brand Natural Brew Soil Conditioner Teas. All-natural soil enhancers in eco-friendly packaging and bio-degradable teabag? I had to try it!

The instructions are simple enough. Place the generous sized bag into a 1-5 gallon container and let steep for 1-3 days. Use for watering and as a foliar spray on indoor and container plants. I used Natural Brew on the indoor garden peppers and eggplants. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no odor. I was also very happy to see the eggplant respond to their first sip of tea with blossoms the next morning! The teabags can be re-used until they no longer tint the water when it’s added. I was able to re-use the single bag I had five times! The depleted bag was composted and the contents mixed into pots of soil for planting.

If you want an eco-friendly, organic, sustainable soil conditioner for your plants, Natural Brew is a great choice! If you would like to know more about Authentic Haven Brand, you can visit them here. If you’re on Twitter look for @GreenSoil and let Annie know you’re interested in growing green with Natural Brew. It’s like a tea party for your plants! Thanks Annie!
