Get in the Garden was launched at the end of October 2009. In just a few short months I have met a lot of really smart, funny and interesting people. Trina, (GardenMom29 as she is known on Twitter), surprised me by awarding me the Honest Scrap Award on her blog Garden Mom the other day. (I am really honored!) The idea of the award is for me to reveal 10 truths about myself that people wouldn’t learn from reading my blog. I then choose seven other bloggers to pass the award on to. Considering I have been blogging just three months I will do my best to find seven others to pass it on to! In the meantime here is
Get in the Garden’s:

1. I absolutely HATE having my picture taken. I’d rather swim through a sea of leeches than pose for a picture. (and I can’t swim! Oh…should have saved that for truth number two…anyway…) We have scads of photos of me blinking, talking, pointing, crying, sneezing and more. My husband tries, bless his heart, but always ends up frustrated saying, “Why do you look like that? Just don’t look like that!” Ummm? So yes, it took exactly 86 pictures to get this one. Our daughter’s wedding pictures should be fun….

2. I have four beautiful children ages 12 to 22. Two boys, two girls. I also have a third daughter that was born two months prematurely with a rare genetic disorder called Trisomy 13. She died when she was nine days old. I was holding her when she took her last breath. My life was forever changed by our little Melissa. Every day is a gift and I remind myself of that every morning. There’s beauty in everything even if we have to dig way down deep to find it.
3. I am 41 years old. That’s on the outside…on the inside I’m still 18, the age I married at. Me and wonder hubby have been together for 23 years this March 14. The journey has been amazing and I wouldn’t change a thing.
4. I can (still) do a cart-wheel.
5. I snap gum when I’m nervous. I know it’s obnoxious. I know it drives my hubby insane. I still do it. I’m sorry.
6. My ears are double pierced but I haven’t worn earrings in years. I don’t wear jewelry (very often). It gets in the way when I’m doing cartwheels. Just kidding.
7. I am lactose intolerant and I have asthma. That said, I love yogurt and cheese and we have two cats and a dog.
8. I can’t carry a tune to save my life. It rarely stops me from belting out a song and horrifying my kids, though. My daughter just agreed with me on that second one…
9. I don’t like chocolate. At all. Really.
10. I give in when my kids beg for junk food. Not always, but I cave more than I would like. I’m working on it.
Whew! O.k. that’s a small glimpse of the “real” me. I now nominate the following people for an Honest Scrap Award:
Karyl at Native Wildlife Gardening
Melanie at Northern Gardener’s Almanac
Carole at Ecosystem Gardening
Michelle at Michelle Masters Topiary Art
Kylee At Our Little Acre *
( UPDATE: Kylee graciously declined as she has already done this sort of thing THREE times!)
I’ve been reading a lot of new (to me) blogs lately, I hope to get to know more about each of the authors and someday read their Honest Scrap!

Yay! That was cool. I am superimpressed that you can do a cartwheel. I’ve never been able to do one, not even when I was a kid. You don’t like chocolate?!!!!! Hmmm….that is probably why you look so skinny. Maybe I should try not liking chocolate. I can’t sing either, I don’t sing in front of anyone except my son. He is not old enough to notice I can’t carry a tune…I’m sure that will change soon. You are so blessed to have the big beautiful family that you have. I can’t even imagine what you went through with your Melissa. I’m sure you cherish everyone of the nine days you had. I’m also sure that it shaped you and made you stronger. I believe in the saying, ‘God never gives us anything we can’t handle’, though it is hard to believe sometimes.
It was so neat learning more about you. This is a neat way to put a personal edge on some of my twitter friends. Thanks!
That is a beautiful photo of you. I love your haircut. Your husband is very patient.
Thanks for sharing all those details of your life. Sorry to hear about baby Melissa. I can imagine how horrible it was for you. I’ll do my best to write my Honest Scrap blog post. thanks for nominating me.
Careful with those cartwheels! I twisted my ankle pretty good a couple of years back. Ha. Beautiful blog and it’s great to learn more about you. Happy Gardening!
ps. I looked at your intermingle post and I want to second that growing strawberries as ground cover works really well.
*BLUSH* Thank you, Melanie! Hubby is probably the most patient man I have ever met…quite the opposite of me I’m afraid, LOL! I look forward to your Honest Scrap! Have fun!
I have to confess I panicked a bit when I saw my name at the end of your Honest Scrap post! This was fun, though, and I love the idea of getting to know the people behind the Twitter names and beyond their blog posts. Thanks Trina!
Thank you for stopping by Laura. I’m really looking forward to more Armitage tweets! I’m adding Punk Rock gardens to my blog roll so I don’t miss any.
I am sorry to hear about your baby daughter. I can not even begin to imagine how life altering that would be. It’s heartbreaking.
I don’t like chocolate either. At all. People think I’m nuts. Finally a kindred spirit on the topic!
And thank you for the nomination – I will try to think of something to say. Hard to feel that your truths may be interesting but I’ll give it a shot!
I have never known another person that dislikes chocolate! I knew there were more of us out there somewhere…I am thankful for what I learned in those short nine days we had with our daughter. That stays with me always and has made my life ( all of our lives, really) so much the better.
OK, Lisa you got me! Haha Tag, I’m it. Thanks so much for the mention. I am truly honored. I took you up on your challenge and posted my Honest Scrap today. It was kind of terrifying, but it turned out to be fun. I love what you’re doing here. Keep on writing! PS I cannot believe you don’t like chocolate. LOL
Thanks Carole! I’m glad you decided to “play along”. I agree it’s a bit intimidating to reveal our private selves… no one likes to feel vulnerable. In the end it’s a blessing to get to know more about our favorite bloggers and tweeters beyond 140 words, photos and posts. Not surprisingly, they’re really interesting and fun people! Kudos to all who share their Honest Scrap! (Please save your chocolate for Carole.)
